If you're looking
for a change of pace and an exciting adventure, escape to the mountains
in a country of breathtaking beauty. Fall blesses us with crisp
refreshing air and an incredible array of reds, oranges, and yellows
blanketing the mountains and trails. Winter brings us snow-laden
trees that form awe-inspiring arches and passageways through the
mountains for us to explore.
On The
Loose headquarters, Huntington, Vermont:
Located just 35 minutes from Burlington, On The Loose Base Camp
stands at the edge of the forest on our 150-acre hilltop farm. Beautiful
views across open meadows and the gurgle of Birch Glen Brook make
it a peaceful location free from distractions. Our own paths from
the farm connect with the endless network of trails of the Green
Mountain National Forest: the Catamount, Long Trail and VAST (Vermont
Assoc. of Snowmobile Trails) systems. From OTL headquarters, a short
walk through hay fields and pasture bring you to our two comfortably
equipped yurts.
How does a weekend trip flow?
Bring your sense
of adventure! All of our weekend trips begin here at On The Loose
Base Camp in Huntington. Arrive Friday evening for a brief weekend
orientation over some homemade dessert served by your enthusiastic
and skilled guides. Saturday, explore the trails or summit a mountain
with gourmet picnic lunch either out on the trail or back at the
yurt. After a full day in the outdoors, we will gather for a hearty
dinner by candlelight in the cozy yurt. Sunday, we will venture
out to new trails, and end the day back at the yurt in the afternoon
where we bid farewells and store our memories for the journeys home
after an invigorating, refreshing weekend.

Backcountry Ski Weekends
Come join us for a 3-day weekend and ski away from the crowds of downhill
ski areas and cross-country ski centers. We'll share our treasured,
secluded routes and great views where hidden tracks and abundant snow
are common in Vermont's Green Mountains. If you have already tried
cross-country skiing and are ready for exploring more natural, un-groomed
terrain to in the backcountry on skis this is the trip for you. All
levels are welcome, whether you love flat-tracking or wish to build
upon your Telemark skills. The terrain offers relaxing skis on nearby
trails to a more extensive trek on a portion Vermont's Catamount Trail
(a backcountry ski trail the length of Vermont). Partial or full-edged
backcountry skis are required.
