Negotiating the powder skiing in the Grand Tetons of Wyoming.

Backcountry skiing
In the Tetons of Wyoming

What to expect:

  • Trips designed for your specific ability
  • Instruction from certified professional (PSIA Nordic) ski guides well versed in winter backcountry travel, avalanche prediction and snow analysis
  • Unique terrain far from ski areas and crowds
  • Comfortable accommodations and delicious food
  • We welcome snowboarders with split boards and alpine tourers.

Floating through the deep, dry powder of Wyoming's Teton Range is an experience that defies description....

  Start: Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Travel Suggested:
Winter/Spring

Fitness: Moderate-Adv. -
Must be in strong physical shape and be able to carry a full pack.

Especially when you're far away from the lines and crowds of established ski areas. Intermediate to advanced alpine and nordic skiers will find endless and varied terrain in this vast western wilderness.

Arriving in Jackson Hole, we will have time to arrange for last minute gear needs before settling in to a cozy guesthouse and a day of work on telemark techniques at the Grand Targhee Ski Area (instruction by your PSIA Nordic certified guide available). Then we venture out to Teton Pass to focus on our skills of backcountry travel and avalanche safety. We'll dig snow pits to analyze the snowpack, test our abilities with transceivers and review protocol for safe group travel over varied terrain. Plenty of time will remain to give us a taste of the nearly limitless bowls and ridges with a few ski runs. The following day will provide us the opportunity to relax or go to Jackson Hole and explore the sights, take in a visit to the National Wildlife Museum or a sleigh ride on the Elk Refuge. Back at the guesthouse we'll prepare our gear for the journey into the backcountry. After a moderate approach of 4 miles through Teton National Forest, we'll settle into a comfortable yurt positioned on a ridge surrounded by 360 degrees of skiable terrain. The next four days will be blissful; carving turns into the surrounding bowls, ending with evenings of hot meals, cribbage games, music and star watching. Tired and satisfied, we will settle back into our guesthouse in Jackson Hole and celebrate with a well-earned scrumptious feast. All meals are included except lunches in town and the last night's dinner.
