YURT
IN VERMONT- Located just 35
minutes from Burlington, Vermont, On The Loose's base
camp stands at the edge of the forest on our 150-acre
hilltop farm. Beautiful views across open meadows and
the gurgle of Birch Glen Brook make it a peaceful location
free from distractions. Our own paths on the farm connect
with the trails of the Green Mountain National Forest:
the Catamount, Long Trail and VAST systems.
WEEKENDS- a
great opportunity to get away from it all in a rustic,
comfortable setting. Escape to a refreshing and active
connection to Vermont's Green Mountains and the breathtaking
terrain and views from the trails we explore. Trips include
insightful guides, all snacks and meals, and yurt accommodations.
Whether on foot, snowshoe, or ski, you will discover
how a weekend immersed in mountain living will rejuvenate
your spirit!
WOMEN'S
ADVENTURES- The camaraderie
of like-minded women is refreshing. Over the past four
years, we've received increasing interest in women-specific
adventures. We are happy to provide three opportunities
for all of you adventurous women to join spirits and
venture up to Vermont for our three rejuvenating wilderness
experiences!
BACKCOUNTRY
SKI- In keeping with our goal
of providing a broad spectrum of experiences, we offer
backcountry skiing to all levels of ability. Never
cross-country skied before? Let us teach you on the
miles of groomed trails at our Vermont basecamp. Ready
to venture off the track? We'll provide you with the
techniques, equipment and direction you need to enjoy
rolling wilderness terrain. Love to earn your turns
and ski uncut powder? Join us for one of our Teton
yurt excursions or the Chic Chocs of the Canadian wilderness.
TREKKING- From
week-long jaunts along the wild ocean shores of St. John,
to our thirty-day exploration of the glacier-carved Dhaula
Himal, our treks are designed to create in-depth experiences
for all levels of interest and ability. We offer day-walking
excursions from a comfortable base, explorations of exotic
cultures and their ancient predecessors, stunning natural
environments, llama and porter supported journeys that
venture weeks from the nearest road--choices for nearly
anyone interested in our diverse world.
MOUNTAINEERING- More
than any other activity, safe mountaineering practice
demands that we gain experience before tackling difficult
objectives. At On The Loose we provide a progression
of opportunities that will lead the aspiring climber
to ever-greater levels of skill and experience. We start
by offering custom courses in the use of the mountaineer's
tools: ice axe, crampons, ropes and harnesses. Those
without significant experience with these tools must
complete this course, or an approved alternative, before
heading out on one of our expeditions. From there we
move to high altitude objectives that allow us the ability
for quick retreat would weather, fitness, health and
altitude factors work against us. Successful experiences
on these excursions will lead the committed alpinist
to more serious ascents.
